The Chevening Scholarship Program at UK


Background: Chevening Scholarships are a joint initiative between the UK Government’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office and UK universities which are available for students from countries outside the EU, and are awarded to talented people who have been identified as potential future leaders in a range of fields. Most Chevening scholarships are awarded for one year postgraduate taught (i.e.: master's) program. Since the scheme began, over 40,000 students have held Chevening Scholarships. Many have gone on to reach positions of influence in a range of sectors. Famous alumni include:

  • Meet the academic requirements for their chosen courses of study
  • Have a good standard of written and spoken English and meet the language requirements for their chosen course(s) of study
  • Be citizens of a country other than the UK or another European Union country or the United States of America
  • Not be employees, relatives of employees, or former employees (who left within the past two years) of Her Majesty’s Government including FCO (and its British Embassies and High Commissions), DFID, UKTI, MOD, BIS, UKBA, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, a partner (sponsor), or sponsoring UK university
  • Not have previously studied in the UK under a UK government-funded scholarship
