The Prime Minister's Pacific-Australia Awards

The Prime Minister's Pacific-Australia Awards are part of the Australia Awards - Development Awards, an Australian Government initiative designed to promote knowledge, education links and enduring ties between Australia, our neighbours and the global community.

The PMPA Awards are fully funded by AusAID, the Australian Agency for International Development. The Awards are offered to recipients of long term development awards (Australian Development Scholarships and Australian Leadership Award Scholarships) from the Pacific, who are leaders or potential leaders in their country. The Awards provide a combination of work placements and leadership training to build on awardees' academic experience.




How To Apply

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for a PMPA Awards, candidates must be:
  • a postgraduate Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) or Australian Leadership Award Scholarship (ALAS) student from one of the following countries: Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, East Timor, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna
  • completing their ADS or ALAS studies in Semester 2 of 2012 or Semester 1 of 2013
  • not in receipt of an Allison Sudrajat or Greg Urwin award
  • not applying for an upgrade from a Masters to a PhD degree

APPLICATION PROCESS
  1. Eligible students submit an application using the online application form. The Program Manager is available to provide advice and guidance on the completion of the application.
  2. The application should include:details of any community or university activities in which the applicant is involved either in Australia or their home country; work placement objectives (applicants are not required to name a prospective host organisation at the time of application); a statement outlining the relevance of the proposed work placement to the applicant's studies, the applicant's future career and the applicant's home organisation or country, inlcuding potential on-going relationship opportunities.
  3. Applicants must also submit a CV. An academic transcript is not required at the time of application.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Applicants will be assessed against the following criteria:
  1. Personal attributes: contribution to and involvement in community and university activities both in Australia and in their home country, demonstrated leadership capacity/ potential
  2. Work placement proposal: relevance of the proposed work placement to the applicant's academic/ employment background and future career plans, relevance of the prosposed work placement and future plans to the development of the applicant's home country/ region
  3. Sustained academic achievement
APPLICATION TIMELINE
Applications Close: 20 May 2012
Interviews for short-listed candidates: June/ July 2012
Notification of awards: mid-September 2012
Placements begin: within four months of the awardee completing their postgraduate studies
